The formal launch of the North East Scotland Climate Change Partnership (NESCCP) has taken place at the All Energy Conference in Aberdeen.
The launch also saw the signing of the partnership’s climate change declaration.
The partnership comprises Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Councils, NHS Grampian, other north-east public sector organisations, universities and representatives of the business community.
It was formed following an Aberdeenshire Council Scrutiny and Audit Committee report in 2007 on climate change, 'The Bigger Issue', which recommended a dialogue with local partners.
Aberdeenshire councillor Martin Ford has chaired the meetings of the group where its role and remit were agreed. He said: "This public/private sector group will work to ensure that the north-east of Scotland works together to address the implications of climate change, and its effects on the economy, environment and quality of life, now and in the future.
"A key role for the partnership will be to raise awareness of the opportunities, as well as the responsibilities, for all residents and organisations in the north-east in tackling the challenges presented by climate change."
Representatives from the member organisations are to meet as a board four times a year, with the chair elected annually.
