Two separate decisions by the East Dunbartonshire Planning Board will bring jobs and an economic boost to Bishopbriggs.

Councillors granted planning permission for two businesses in the town wishing to expand their operations and presence in Bishopbriggs.

Planning permission was given for a new accommodation block to be built onto the Eagle Lodge in the town's Hilton Road. The development will add 50 beds to the site and extra parking spaces will be provided.

There will also be a 1,035m2 extension to the Asda store in the town's Kirkintilloch Road for non-food items.

Planning Board Chair, Councillor Simon Hutchison, said: "When considering planning applications we are rigorous in assessing them against the needs and aspirations of the agreed Local Plan as we take our role in protecting the green spaces and build quality of East Dunbartonshire very seriously.

"The Board considered that both these applications brought benefits to the area. East Dunbartonshire does not have enough accommodation for visitors and the promise of more beds is a boost for us in promoting the area as a tourist destination. We are told that the Asda extension will create additional jobs, which is also good news."
