Inquiry Launched Into Lewis Wind Farm Plan

An inquiry has been launched into plans to build a wind farm close to a prehistoric site on the Isle of Lewis.

The firm Beinn Mhor, owned by developer Nicholas Oppenheim, plan to build 53 wind turbines on the Eishken Estate.

The £120m plans have caused protests over concerns the turbines will damage the Callanish standing stones.

Mr Oppenheim has said he will lease six of the turbines and give the income they generate to the local community.

The developers original plan was to build 130 turbines but this was reduced to 53 after fears of an impact on birds of prey from RSPB Scotland.

The inquiry in Stornoway is expected to last up to seven days.
