Seafield Sewage Treatment Works have been served with an enforcement notice from environment agency Sepa after local residents complained about an unpleasant smell coming from the plant.

Operators Veolia have called in consultants to help with the intermittent odour emanating from the sludge management area of the site.

A Sepa spokesman said: "Sepa have served an enforcement notice on the holding company Stirling Water to ensure that this is resolved within as short a timescale as possible and that contingency measures are investigated to minimise odour emissions during this period".

Stirling Water have said they are taking the matter seriously and will continue to work with the site operator to find a resolution.
