West Lothian Council has approved a new £28 million housing investment programme for the next 12 months.

The ambitious spending programme includes £7.5m building 240 council houses for rent,

£3m on environmental improvements, £1.9m on repairs and improvements to garages £9.8m on housing stock improvements

Council Leader Peter Johnston, said: "This is a detailed and extensive new housing capital programme which will benefit our tenants across West Lothian over the next year.

"We will be starting work soon on our programme to build 700 new council houses for rent. We will be building 240 properties in the first phase and work is underway to identify sites for the remaining 460 houses.

"There is also significant continuing investment in our existing housing stock under our new programme. The council remains committed to meeting the Scottish Housing Quality standard for all its stock by 2015."
