Sanctuary Scotland's final home for rent has been built in Priesthill, ending the first phase of its regeneration project.

All of the 206 new affordable houses and flats in this area of Glasgow are now occupied by tenants following the demolition of defective Orlit housing and £16m investment by Sanctuary Scotland.

Priesthill now boasts good quality housing and thanks to a partnership with Glasgow City Council, also has improved outdoor spaces and play facilities.

Gordon Laurie, Director of Sanctuary Scotland, said: "Priesthill has undergone a complete transformation and now looks like an area that anyone would be proud to call home. The completion of last home for rent marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Sanctuary Scotland and its tenants.

"However, our commitment to the regeneration of the area does not end here. We are now entering the final phase of the project with the construction of housing for sale."

Sanctuary Scotland has also acquired two further sites in the heart of Priesthill from Glasgow City Council, which will be used to build affordable housing in the coming years.

Priesthill was transferred from Scottish Homes to Sanctuary Scotland in November 2001. The project to replace the defective Orlit housing started in 2002.
