Miller Developments has concluded missives with Tesco to develop a 31,000 sq ft supermarket and petrol filling station on the former auction mart site in Ormlie Road, Thurso.
Miller acquired the Auction Mart site just under two years ago and secured planning permission for the development following an inquiry in late 2007.
Bruce Lindsay, Development Director, Miller Developments, said: “We are delighted to have secured this planning permission which permits regeneration of a derelict site, and also to have signed Tesco as the supermarket operator. This new store will meet an acknowledged local demand for quality shopping choice in the area.”
Douglas Wilson, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager, said: “We are actively pursuing a development on the site and hope to be in a position to discuss this further with local councillors and the wider Thurso community in the near future in order to deliver the best proposal for our customers.
"Our store in Wick has been a great success and was greatly welcomed by the local community. This acquisition gives us the opportunity to improve the Tesco offer to our existing customers in Thurso.”
Miller Developments procures large-scale development programmes across the UK and Europe and has developed particular strengths in regenerating redundant brownfield land.
