The Royal Museum in Edinburgh is hosting a two-day event to celebrate the beginning of a £45 milion refurbishment and key stories in the history of the museum.
The free event taking place on April 26 and 27 will include music from the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, workshops, last chance tours, children's activities, performance, dance and appearances from local celebs.
There will also be a free ticketed book festival event with appearances by authors Kate Atkinson and Maggie O'Farrell.
Half the museum will be closed until 2011 while the facelift is completed. A new floor with street access will allow double the amount of artefact's to be displayed.
Museum spokesman Jane Ferguson said: "Half the museum will remain open with an exciting programme of events and exhibitions continuing."
