New Gas Plant At Sullom Voe

A £50 million gas plant is to be built at the Sullom Voe oil terminal in Shetland.

Construction work is due to begin next year, with the project expected to create jobs.

Authorities are hoping to have the new plant up and running by 2010.

The investment is aimed at securing the long-term future of the terminal, which plays a vital part in the economy of the area.

Sullom Voe – which is over 30 years old - employs more than 500 people in the islands.

According to councillor Alistair Cooper, the project would make the complex more competitive for new oil and gas businesses.
