A 30-year-old workman has been killed while laying pipes in a trench at a construction site in Cranhill Park, in the east end of Glasgow.
An investigation has been launched.
It is believed that he had been standing next to the trench when it collapsed, trapping him inside.
The alarm was raised shortly before 12 noon.
The man was working on a sewerage system for a contractor on behalf of Scottish Water.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "We believe there has been an incident at Cranhill.
"Contractors are relaying a 300mm sewer on behalf of Scottish Water. Senior Scottish Water officials are on their way to the scene.
"Health and safety is always a top priority for Scottish Water and our contractors."
