Essential drainage improvements on the A91 at Blairlogie will begin on Tuesday 20 October and are scheduled to run for five weeks. A full road closure will be in place from Manor Loan to the Blairlogie Orchard Dumyat Car Park for the duration, with access maintained for emergency services.
The twin culvert that carries surface water beneath this section of the A91 has reached the end of its operational life. To safeguard the route's long-term performance, JML Contracts Ltd has been appointed to deliver the upgrade.
The £196,000 scheme will include: upgrading the existing culvert structure; installing a new reinforced concrete slab with associated ground anchors; improving the existing headwalls; and undertaking related utility diversion and protection works. Contractors will operate Monday to Saturday, and advance warning signs are already in place for residents and road users.
Blairlogie Orchard Dumyat Car Park will be closed throughout and used as the contractor's site compound, though pedestrian access to Dumyat will be maintained at all times. Local businesses will remain open, with access clearly signposted via diversion routes where required.
Community engagement has already taken place, including an in-person information session, and direct communication with affected residents will continue during the programme. Midland Bluebird has confirmed that Service 52 will continue to serve Menstrie during the closure: www.mcgillsscotlandeast.co.uk/midland-bluebird-confirms-service-52-will-continue-serving-menstrie-during-bridge-closure
Stirling Council has committed an additional £3 million to road infrastructure this year, taking total planned investment in 2026/27 to £8 million.
Convener of Stirling Council's Environment, Transport and Net Zero Committee, Cllr Alasdair Tollemache said: "These works represent an important investment in local infrastructure and will help ensure the long-term reliability and resilience of the A91 for residents, businesses and visitors.
"We are committed to improving and maintaining our road network across Stirling. Upgrading the culverts on this section of the A91 will enhance the road's ability to cope with heavy rainfall and will reduce the risk of future damage.
"Working with the contractor, we will aim to minimise disruption as much as possible. We will continue engaging with local communities and stakeholders during the works and thank them in advance for their patience and understanding."
