Plans to revitalise Kirkcaldy's town centre and waterfront are moving into the next phase, with work progressing on the UK Government's Growth Mission Fund project.
Over the past year, residents, local businesses, community organisations and other stakeholders have taken part in surveys, drop-ins and conversations, helping to shape proposals for the town's future.
This input is informing both the long-term plan for the town centre and waterfront and the £20 million Growth Mission Fund programme.
Reflecting what the community said, the business case is being developed around three main priorities: delivering Phase 1 of a new Esplanade park; creating flexible indoor and outdoor spaces to support community activities, events, culture and leisure; and acquiring land and tackling vacant or underused buildings to improve connections between the town centre and the waterfront and open up future investment opportunities.
The Council aims to submit the business case to the UK Government by the end of October. If approved, it will then go to a future Council committee for a decision on the proposed investment.
In parallel, work continues on the long-term plan for Kirkcaldy town centre and waterfront. Drawing on feedback from local people and groups, the final plan is expected to be completed in November and will be presented to councillors in the New Year for approval. Once agreed, it will guide investment, development and regeneration across the town centre and waterfront.
Councillor Ian Cameron, Convener of Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the time to get involved and share their views.
"We've heard from people of all ages and backgrounds, and their feedback is helping to shape both the long-term plan for Kirkcaldy town centre and waterfront and the Growth Mission Fund project.
"People told us they want better public spaces, more things to do, stronger links between the town centre and waterfront, and opportunities that encourage more people to spend time in Kirkcaldy.
"We're now taking those views forward as we develop a business case for the Growth Mission Fund project.
"If approved, this investment would help create new opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors, improve key parts of the town centre and waterfront, and support Kirkcaldy's future."
