North Lanarkshire remains at the forefront of Scotland's industrial and logistics market, with over £100 million committed in the last year and nearly 1 million sq ft of new premises progressed across strategic locations.
A standout £72 million US-backed investment by Tulchan and Newlands Developments will deliver 355,000 sq ft of prime industrial and logistics accommodation at Orchard Park, Eurocentral. The 40-acre scheme is described as the largest deal of its kind in Scotland for three decades, capping a year that has reinforced North Lanarkshire's status as a leading destination for investors.
The area holds 58% of all marketable land in the Glasgow City Region and records one of Scotland's lowest industrial vacancy rates. Total industrial stock in North Lanarkshire is around 30 million sq ft, with availability at approximately 3.25%, reportedly below the Glasgow City Region average of 4.3% (Ryden LLP, 2025).
Leader of the Council, Councillor Jim Logue, said, "The fact that North Lanarkshire is strategically-placed with an established logistics corridor in the heart of Scotland's 'golden triangle' between M8, M74 and the A725 contributes to our increased economic growth, specifically in the industrial and logistics sector.
"The region combines one of Scotland's largest concentrations of industrial and employment land with exceptionally low availability of industrial premises, which demonstrates the confidence in North Lanarkshire as a key business location."
Expanding activity in logistics and transport is opening up jobs, skills and career pathways. Skills Development Scotland's latest Regional Skills Assessment estimates 10,500 people will be employed in the sector in Lanarkshire between 2028 and 2035. Combined, North Lanarkshire's transport and storage sector alongside wholesale, retail and repair comprises 2,230 businesses, employing 30,600 people and generating £6,819bn annually (Scottish Government, Businesses in Scotland 2025).
Councillor Logue continued: "Given that it's Lanarkshire Business Month, these latest developments, alongside forecast job figures highlight both the scale of future opportunity and the importance of ensuring local people have the skills employers need. The council's own employability services work alongside partners such as Routes to Work to establish strong pathways into the sector and these latest developments demonstrate that there will be increasing focus on the logistics and industrial sector."
Over the past year, the council has helped 117 people into roles across warehousing and driving, while 80 young people aged 16–24 are currently registered with Routes to Work expressing an ambition to join the sector.
