Topping-Out Ceremony Marks Milestone For New Girvan Primary And Early Years Centre

A topping-out ceremony has taken place at the site of the new Girvan Primary School and Early Years Centre to celebrate completion of the building's steel frame.

Pupils and school staff were joined on Tuesday 6 October by councillors, representatives from Kier, and guests to mark the latest milestone in delivering the new campus.

The development will feature a standalone Early Years Centre with its own entrance and reception alongside a brand-new primary school. The primary building will include classrooms across two storeys and a dedicated Additional Support Needs (ASN) base.

Construction began earlier this year on the existing school site. On completion, pupils will move into the new facilities before demolition of the current school starts, ensuring a smooth transition and minimising disruption to learning.

South Ayrshire Council's Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, said: "The topping out ceremony marks a significant milestone for this project and for the wider Girvan community. It's fantastic to see the building taking shape, and we're one step closer to delivering a modern, high-quality learning environment that will support children, families and the community for generations to come."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor William Grant, said: "Reaching this stage in the construction programme is a major achievement and highlights the progress being made towards creating an inspiring new educational campus for Girvan. The new school and early years centre will provide first-class facilities that support learning, wellbeing and achievement from the early stages, helping our young people to reach their full potential."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services, Councillor Martin Kilbride, said: "This ceremony marks another important step in the delivery of this landmark investment for Girvan. The new campus has been designed to provide sustainable, fit-for-purpose facilities that meet the needs of pupils, staff and the wider community, demonstrating our continued commitment to investing in modern public buildings that will serve South Ayrshire well into the future."

Philip McDowell, Regional Director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said:"Reaching this topping out milestone is a significant achievement and a testament to the strong partnership between Kier and South Ayrshire Council. It is fantastic to see the new Girvan Primary School and Early Years Centre taking shape, and we are proud to be delivering a modern, high-quality learning environment that will benefit pupils, staff and the wider community.

"We look forward to progressing the next phase of work on-site and delivering this important new facility."
