SP Energy Networks is inviting residents and stakeholders to comment on proposals to upgrade the electricity transmission system between Clydebank and Denny.
The Windyhill to Lambhill to Denny North Upgrade Project forms part of the company's long-term investment to support regional economic growth, boost network capacity and maintain a secure, reliable power supply for years to come.
With electricity demand in Scotland forecast to double by 2050, the proposals include works at three existing substations — Windyhill in Clydebank, Lambhill and Denny North — alongside enhancements to the overhead network.
Under the plans, the voltage of existing overhead transmission lines would be increased so the network can operate at 400kV (400,000 volts). This would involve strengthening some tower foundations, improving access, and rewiring along the route.
The programme is intended to move more renewable electricity efficiently from where it is generated to homes and businesses nationwide, increasing capacity and easing network constraints.
SP Energy Networks is seeking feedback from local communities, with comments from this consultation helping to refine the final design for substation enhancements, tower foundation works and access routes.
Laurence Kelly, lead project manager, said: "Local feedback is a crucial part of developing our plans for these works. We are hosting a series of events where residents can meet the team, hear more about the plans and ask questions about the project and we'd encourage people to come along.
"This is a critical project as we rewire and modernise the electricity grid and we value feedback to support the plan development."
The first consultation phase for the Windyhill to Lambhill to Denny North project runs from Tuesday 3 November 2026 and remains open for comments until Monday 7 December. Community drop-in sessions will be held as follows:
Tuesday 3 November, 2pm–7pm: Dunipace Football Club, 3 Townhouse St, Denny, FK6 5DX
