SSEN Transmission Team Digs In To Revive Peterhead’s Victoria Park

Construction News Image

A group from the Peterhead Substation Super Grid Transformer Replacement project set aside their usual roles to spend a day on community volunteering at Victoria Park in Peterhead.

Working alongside members of Peterhead Area Community Trust (PACT), the ten-strong team weeded, strimmed and dug over flowerbeds, breathing new life into an area of the park that had fallen into disuse.

PACT is a volunteer-led Scottish charity founded in 2018. Its mission is to enhance the lives of people in Peterhead through sport, recreation and community projects that promote health, wellbeing, inclusion and cohesion.

The volunteering day brought together colleagues from the Peterhead 132kV substation upgrade project, with additional help from contractor Balfour Beatty. It offered a chance for the team to give back while supporting the Trust's work to maintain a much-used community space.

Marc Hay, Community Liaison Manager with SSEN Transmission, said: "Community volunteering forms an important part of our commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact in the areas where we work. By supporting local initiatives project teams can contribute directly to community wellbeing while helping to build stronger local connections.

"We'd like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and the team at Peterhead Area Community Trust for allowing us to play a small part in their ongoing efforts to improve community spaces."

Lynne Stormonth, from Peterhead Area Community Trust, said:

"Everyone at PACT would like to pass on our sincere thanks to SSEN Transmission for the invaluable support you all provided at Victoria Park.

"As a volunteer-led charity, we rely heavily on the generosity and commitment of partners like you. Your willingness to give your time and energy makes a huge difference, allowing us to evolve the park for the benefit of residents of all ages who use the park all year round.

"Looking forward to working closely with SSEN Transmission in the future as we continue to maintain and enhance the park."
