The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has unveiled three finalists for this year's Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award. The shortlist citation describes the selection as "creative re-use and restoration of historic buildings, signifying how new life can be brought to places and buildings through designs that have employed a lot of thought, inclusivity and sustainability."

Among the shortlisted projects is Paisley Central Library, delivered by CCG (Scotland) with hub West Scotland for Renfrewshire Council and designed by Collective Architecture. The scheme converted former High Street retail premises into a learning and events hub for children and adults.

The building received extensive structural upgrades to create a sustainable, community-centred space that addresses local needs, employing natural light and views to encourage a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

Judges praised the library's capacity to "integrate into its street setting in a distinctly modern, confident yet quiet way." They also said the project shows "how underused high street buildings can be revitalised into inspirational spaces for learning and connection."

The winner of the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award will be announced in November.
