A £600,000 scheme to extend the life of Cot House bridge in Dunoon is due to start in the second week of October and continue until the end of the year.

The bridge and access to Cot House service station will stay open throughout under traffic management. Delays are expected and the council has thanked road users for their patience.

Cot House Bridge features specialist half-joint detailing that requires careful inspection and repair. The exact scope of work will be confirmed once the deck has been exposed and assessed.

Works will proceed one lane at a time. The existing road surface will be removed to expose the concrete deck for inspection and any necessary repairs. The deck will then be waterproofed and resurfaced before that lane reopens and activity switches to the opposite lane. At the same time, defects beneath the structure will be exposed and repaired on the soffit and elevations.

The completion date will depend on the extent and complexity of repairs identified after the concrete is exposed, as well as weather conditions.

The project is funded through the Local Maintenance Bridge Fund, secured by the Council's Infrastructure Design Team, as part of a wider programme to strengthen four bridges and replace a further four across Argyll and Bute.

Some are more than 100 years old and were not designed for today's volume and weight of traffic. Even more modern bridges are affected by the west of Scotland climate and need regular care. Thank you for your patience while we carry out this vital work to keep Cot House bridge in service for many years to come."
