Edinburgh Airport has announced plans to invest more than £500 million over the next five years in the largest capital investment programme in its history.

The first phase of the multi-year programme will focus on expanding the terminal, upgrading airport infrastructure and improving passenger facilities and operations as the airport prepares for future growth.

First Minister John Swinney visited the airport's South East Pier expansion site alongside Edinburgh Airport Chief Executive Gordon Dewar. The development, which forms part of the £500 million programme, is due to fully open in summer 2027.

The investment programme reflects the commitment of VINCI Airports and GIP to Edinburgh Airport and its plans to strengthen the airport’s role as a global connectivity hub.

The five-year programme represents the first phase of a wider investment plan for Edinburgh Airport and its surrounding campus.

Projects planned as part of the programme include new gates to support route growth and additional aircraft stands to accommodate increased aircraft movements.

The airport also plans to expand its check-in hall and departure lounge, with the overall terminal footprint set to increase by 60%.

Passengers will also see new and improved retail, food and beverage facilities, alongside new international arrivals facilities and expanded baggage make-up and reclaim areas.

Terminal transformation is at the centre of the first phase, with the wider programme designed to increase capacity and improve the passenger experience while supporting future demand in a sustainable and efficient way.

The airport said the investment will support the introduction of new long-haul and short-haul routes, strengthening connectivity between Scotland and markets across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and beyond.

The programme also forms part of Edinburgh Airport’s Greater Good sustainability strategy, with modernised infrastructure creating opportunities for further low-carbon enhancements.

Investment will extend beyond the terminal, with improvements planned across the wider airport campus, including additional electric vehicle infrastructure, a new access road and other initiatives.
