Castle Building Services has completed the full suite of mechanical, electrical, public health and renewable services for the new Dumfries High School, a £53 million scheme designed to serve more than 930 pupils.

Appointed by Morgan Sindall Construction, the project is delivered by hub South West Scotland (hub SW) in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council, with funding supported by the Learning Estate Investment Programme.

The school will feature a new athletics centre providing PE and sports facilities for pupils and the wider community, along with an all-weather pitch.

Inside, plans include new social and dining spaces, an amphitheatre and a science garden, as well as break-out areas for science and languages and a library.

Castle's scope covered the design, supply, installation and commissioning of mechanical systems including above-ground drainage, domestic services, low-temperature and hot-water heating, large-scale underfloor heating, ventilation and air conditioning, incoming mains, thermal insulation, commissioning and building management systems to monitor and control energy use, and sprinklers.

The renewables package includes 30 kWp photovoltaics and air source heat pumps.

Electrical works comprised LV installations, small power, fire and intruder alarms, security systems, lighting with controls, earthing and bonding, lightning protection, induction loops and EV charging.
