A new strategic alliance between Queens Cross Housing Association and Maryhill Housing Association has secured more than £177,000 to help prevent homelessness across north Glasgow.

North West Partners, established less than two years ago, has been awarded the funding through the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations' Glasgow Upstream Homelessness Prevention Fund.

The funding will support the launch of the North Glasgow Homelessness Prevention Service, which will provide practical, person-centred support to tenants at risk of losing their homes.

The service will focus on early intervention, helping tenants access support before housing problems reach crisis point. It will also develop "Ask and Act" approaches designed to identify and address issues at an earlier stage.

North West Partners said the service would strengthen collaboration between housing providers, local services and community partners, with the aim of helping people sustain their tenancies and avoid homelessness.

As part of the funding, £87,057 will be provided as direct cash-first support for individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties, helping them maintain their tenancies and prevent homelessness.

The funding panel praised the scale and ambition of the proposal, as well as the partnership between Queens Cross Housing Association and Maryhill Housing Association.

The panel also highlighted the project's commitment to developing wider "Ask and Act" activity alongside direct tenancy sustainment support.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to shift homelessness prevention towards earlier intervention, with housing providers working with tenants to tackle problems before they escalate.
