Glasgow City Council has approved the disposal of several sites across the city and three former janitor's houses, and authorised a compulsory purchase, in moves designed to benefit local businesses and residents and make hundreds of social and private homes available.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Depute Leader and Convener for Housing and Development at Glasgow City Council, said: "These decisions will enable hundreds of new homes to be built and others brought back into used for the people of Glasgow at a time when new housing is very much needed. The built heritage of the city is also being protected through the restoration of three janitor's houses that will once again be used to provide quality housing for families in Glasgow."

The council's Contracts & Property Committee agreed four off-market land disposals: a small strip next to 11 Cromer Gardens in Ruchill to allow a residential garden to be extended; a 0.15-hectare plot on Bogmoor Road, North Cardonald, for Fortrum Energy to create an ancillary area for its energy centre; 7.75 hectares at Westerhouse Road, Easterhouse, enabling Apsley (Gartloch) Limited to build an access road for a planned nearby development of up to 800 homes; and 0.72 hectares at Ledgowan Place and Sandbank Street, Maryhill, to Maryhill Housing Association, which intends to deliver 138 mixed-tenure homes.

Members also approved the off-market disposal of three former janitor's houses — the B-listed Cuthbertson's janitor's house at 33 Cuthbertson Street, Govanhill; the B-listed St James' janitor's house at 88 Green Street, Calton; and the Royston janitor's house at 104 Royston Road — to the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust. The Trust will restore and refurbish these heritage properties, bring them back into habitable use, and then sell them on to a housing association for the provision of social housing.

The council further approved the compulsory purchase of a residential property at 118 Hillington Road South. Empty since June 2026, the home will be transferred to Linthouse Housing Association to be brought up to standard and returned to productive use as accommodation for a homeless person or family.
