Transport Scotland has launched the tender stage for a £1.94 billion A9 Dualling Delivery Framework Agreement, which will appoint contractors to complete the remaining sections of the route between Perth and Inverness.
The move marks the final phase of procurement, following June's Contract Notice and an initial pre-qualification round, and invites shortlisted firms to submit full bids. The framework is expected to be concluded by the end of this year, enabling the procurement of the last five dualling projects on the corridor and keeping overall completion on track for the end of 2035.
The bidders invited across the two framework lots are Balfour Beatty Morrison Construction, Graham, Hochtief (UK) Construction Ltd, Kier Transportation Limited and Wills Brothers Civil Engineering Ltd.
The A9 Dualling Programme is designed to improve journey reliability, road safety and connectivity between Perth and Inverness, while supporting economic growth across the Highlands and Perthshire and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
Currently, 11 miles of A9 dualling are under construction, supporting hundreds of jobs, including roles for apprentices and graduates. On the Tomatin to Moy section alone, 256 people are employed, with nearly two-thirds of the workforce drawn from the local area.
The Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Transport and Tourism, Stephen Flynn MSP, said: "I am pleased to see the procurement of this Framework Agreement progressing, this maintains the momentum needed to deliver the dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness by the end of 2035.
"The Framework Agreement creates a sustained programme of construction activity across the A9, providing long-term certainty for the supply chain while supporting jobs, skills and economic growth across Scotland.
"The programme is now delivering on multiple fronts, with completed sections in operation, major works underway and procurement of the remaining sections progressing providing a clear pathway to completing the dualling of the A9."
