SELECT's training arm has earned strong commendation from Qualifications Scotland in its latest annual review, with particular recognition for ensuring all courses reflect Amendment 4 of BS 7671. The positive findings followed a qualification verification visit to the association's dedicated training facility last month.

The Qualifications Scotland auditor commented: "The centre has again demonstrated that it has robust systems in place for planning, delivering, assessing and verifying all the courses that I have sampled and I have high confidence in all areas for continued training provision.

"The staff interviewed at time of visit have a vast knowledge of these systems and have a vast knowledge of the electrical industry as a whole and are suitably qualified relevant to the courses they deliver."

The report highlighted a number of strengths within the training department, including:

- Staff competence to assess and internally verify in line with Qualifications Scotland customised awards.

- A comprehensive induction for a new team member to ensure familiarity with all courses before delivery, assessment and verification.

- Initial and ongoing process reviews to confirm full alignment with current regulatory criteria.

- A robust assessment and documentation trail, with evidence of internal verification.

- A continuous quality loop that shares processes, updates and verifier feedback with staff to maintain a strong quality system.

Commenting on SELECT's ongoing process reviews, the report said: "This is especially important in this industry as regulations change from year to year. This April the industry standard, the IET wiring regulations 18th Edition, published an Amendment 4 update and all the centre's assessments/marking schemes and course notes have been updated to ensure staff are working to the current version."

The audit was conducted on 25 August at The Walled Garden and was attended by Director of Technical Services Robert McGoogan, Training Manager Jenny Cryans, Training Development Adviser Stuart McKelvie and Technical Services Manager Bruce Findlay.

Robert said: "This report highlights the hard work and dedication delivered by our team to ensure our Members and the wider electrotechnical sector in Scotland receive the highest standard of training. Well done to everyone involved."

Jenny added: "We are delighted with this outcome which once again reflects the excellent work of our trainers and admin team. Congratulations should be given to all involved and it shows what great training SELECT provides for everyone who attends our training courses."

All Qualifications Scotland training centres undergo an annual review and must meet quality assurance requirements and assess candidates against national standards to retain accreditation.
