Major Govan Tenement Window Upgrade Under Way

Construction News Image

Govan Housing Group's £760,000 window replacement programme is progressing across the area's traditional tenements, delivering high-spec upgrades designed to boost comfort, cut energy bills and enhance the look of properties.

To date, tenants in 64 homes have received new high-performance double-glazed units. In the first year alone, 397 single-glazed windows were replaced, with a further 365 installations scheduled in the current financial year.

The works are being delivered by Home Team, the Group's in-house repairs and maintenance arm. Specialising in projects for housing associations and in occupied homes, Home Team also supports organisations across the central belt, including Cernach Housing Association, Provanhall Housing Association and Elderpark Housing Association.

Home Team collaborated with Govan Housing Association and conservation experts DO Architecture to develop a design that meets needs on the ground and complies with Glasgow City Council's planning rules. Pilot installations in several properties allowed the team to test materials and fitting methods, selecting a solution that balances thermal performance with durability and practical installation.

A dedicated customer contact officer and the team's experience working exclusively with housing associations helped secure high access rates and smooth delivery. Tenants awarded the programme a 100% quality score in its first year.

The five-year initiative is expected to make many of Govan's tenements easier to heat, more energy efficient and more resilient, while reducing future maintenance and improving day-to-day living conditions for residents.

Kris Docherty, Head of Home Team, said: "Working closely with Govan Housing Association, we have delivered hundreds of new windows that demonstrate our ability to manage complex, multi-property upgrade programmes while maintaining quality, safety and tenant satisfaction.

"This is exactly the type of work we excel at. We coordinate improvements in occupied homes, navigate challenges such as asbestos and ensure tenants feel supported throughout. Home Team continues to grow and more housing associations are choosing us because we understand the realities of delivering upgrades in people's homes."

Caron Quinn, Chief Executive of Govan Housing Group, added: "With more than 1,600 homes across Govan, we are committed to investing in our communities and improving the lives of our tenants. This window replacement programme is a key part of our multi-million-pound investment in our homes. It will help reduce energy bills, improve comfort and preserve the character of our traditional tenement stock."
