A public consultation has opened on South Lanarkshire Council's 10-year Estates Strategy, setting out £24 million of investment in schools and community facilities. Residents, service users and local groups are being asked for their views before final decisions are taken, with the survey open until Tuesday 29 September.
The programme proposes upgrades across a wide range of buildings, including community sports venues, visitor centres, leisure centres, day care centres and primary schools. The funding is planned to be phased over three years.
Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources, Stephen Gibson, said: "Your feedback will help us understand how the proposals could affect residents, communities, service users and local organisations.
"We want to make sure people can continue to access services easily and that any potential issues are identified before decisions are made.
"This significant investment in council infrastructure, right across the whole of South Lanarkshire, will improve the quality, accessibility, utilisation and sustainability of our estate.
"The £24 million investment will be spread over three years, with £7.29 million spent in 2026/27, £11.7 million in 2027/2028 and £5 million in 2028/2029."
People can take part in the consultation via the council website (www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/estates-stategy-consultation). Further background on the Estates Strategy is available in a previous South Lanarkshire View article (www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/view/news/article/3046/Improvements_on_way_to_buildings_across_South_Lanarkshire).
Among the sites earmarked for improvements is Lanark Memorial Hall, which is set to receive £150,000 of investment.
