Scottish developer Westpoint Homes has unveiled plans to construct 750 new properties across the country over the next five years, backed by long-standing lending partner Close Brothers Property Finance.
The Renfrewshire-headquartered housebuilder currently has more than 250 properties under construction across four active Scottish sites. Its broader pipeline will see a total of 750 homes delivered over the five-year period.
The ongoing backing from Close Brothers Property Finance, a major UK specialist development finance provider, gives the firm financial certainty amidst wider market uncertainty. Across a 14-year partnership, Close Brothers Property Finance has supported Westpoint Homes in creating over 900 new properties, representing a combined Gross Development Value of £377 million.
Ian Rigby, Managing Director at Westpoint Homes said: "Close Brothers Property Finance's willingness to take the time to properly understand our business needs and provide bespoke facilities has been central to our ability to deliver the high-quality, crafted homes we have been building across the country for 40 years.
"Knowing we have the team at Close Brothers supporting us gives us the confidence to invest in our business and bid for sites. Their support has allowed us to unlock equity from completed projects and recycle that capital into the next one which means we can keep scaling our business, hiring more people and taking on increasingly ambitious development projects, including our landmark Finnieston site."
Westpoint Homes recently launched its latest project, The 945, situated in Finnieston, Glasgow. The scheme comprises 62 apartments and six commercial units. Supported by an £18.75m funding package, it stands as one of the largest single facilities Close Brothers has provided to the developer to date, reflecting the growing scale and complexity of the lender's agreements.
Active in Scotland since 2009, Close Brothers Property Finance has financed the delivery of 1,786 Scottish homes over the past decade. This latest funding pledge comes at a critical time, as Scottish new-build completions dropped 10 per cent year-on-year to 17,268 in the year to March 2026, against the backdrop of an ongoing national housing emergency now in its third year.
Gary Ferris, Business Development Director at Close Brothers Property Finance says: "Scotland is building fewer homes than at almost any point in the past decade. SME housebuilders have the sites, the skills and the appetite, but too often they are constrained by the shape of the funding available to them. Westpoint's 750-home pipeline shows what becomes possible when a developer has certainty over five years rather than one scheme at a time."
While maintaining its core focus on SME housebuilders with standard funding structures between £1 million and £5 million, Close Brothers Property Finance is expanding its maximum facility limit up to £70 million for established clients taking on larger, structured deals. This wider offering encompasses revolving credit facilities, Build to Rent (BTR), and large-scale Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA).
The expanded lending capacity follows continued investment in the lender's Edinburgh office, which recently appointed Stuart Scott as Director, Real Estate Finance, following his move from Investec this month.
Gary Ferris, concludes: "Our commitment to housebuilders and developers in Scotland is unchanged. What is changing is the range of what we can fund alongside it. Larger facilities, revolving structures and the ability to back PBSA and BTR mean we can keep supporting customers as their ambitions grow, rather than reaching a ceiling."
