Junction Upgrade Near Broadford To Support Substation Project

Construction News Image

Road improvement works at the junction of Old Corry Road and the A87 near Broadford will begin today, Tuesday 1 September, as part of preparations for SSEN Transmission's Broadford Substation development.

The junction will be widened to improve safe access for construction vehicles entering and leaving the substation site and to help keep traffic flowing on the A87 during construction.

To carry out the works safely, a northbound lane closure will be in place on the A87 at the Old Corry Road junction for up to six weeks, controlled by temporary three-way traffic lights operating 24 hours a day.

Once the junction upgrade is complete, improvements to Old Corry Road will follow. This phase is expected to take up to 12 weeks, with all Old Corry Road users diverted onto a temporary road running parallel to the existing route to maintain access at all times. No traffic management will be required on the A87 during this stage.

Haleem Mohammed, Project Manager for SSEN Transmission, said: "These improvements are required to support the safe delivery of our Broadford Substation project and to ensure construction traffic can access the site safely and efficiently.

"We appreciate these works may cause some temporary inconvenience and would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while they are carried out."

Similar access point works on the A87 will be required across the Skye Reinforcement Project area to provide safe access for construction teams working on the new overhead line. SSEN Transmission will continue to engage with local communities and road users ahead of any future works and will provide regular updates.

Residents can find the latest information and sign up for email notifications via the SSEN Transmission Skye Reinforcement Project webpage.
