A new on-site construction training shed has opened at Chryston High School as part of the school’s extension, widening practical learning opportunities through a partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, BAM Construction, hub South West Scotland and members of BAM's supply chain.

With 32 pupils in S3 and S4 already studying construction, the facility will help the school grow capacity and strengthen existing programmes.

The purpose-built workspace is intended to boost hands-on learning and support pathways into apprenticeships and further study. School leaders said the collaboration with industry partners has been key to delivering the new resource and to broadening the curriculum offer for young people.

Head Teacher Gregg Orrock said the school had developed an excellent working relationship with BAM Construction and welcomed the facility. He said: "As a school, we have invested in developing and delivering construction skills, including the Foundation Apprenticeship programme for pupils in S4. This year, across S3 and S4, we have 32 pupils learning and developing their construction skills and knowledge. “This facility will allow us to increase our capacity and develop our courses further, so more young people learn the basic skills required to support them into careers in construction."

Industry partners said the project shows how collaboration can create long-term social value.
