Repairs to Glen Bridge in Dunfermline will take longer than first planned after engineers uncovered more widespread defects in the concrete deck during ongoing works.

The greater level of deterioration only became clear once the carriageway surface was removed, exposing additional areas that must be fixed before the project can be finished. As a result, the existing lane closure will stay in place and is expected to continue for a further four weeks.

The bridge remains safe for traffic. Current traffic management is designed to protect the workforce and allow the repairs to be completed safely.

Service Manager Michael Anderson, said: "While carrying out the planned repairs, the extent of concrete repairs needed to the bridge deck were greater to what were anticipated from the initial site investigations, prior to works commencing on site. While this will extend the works, it's important these issues are addressed now, ensuring the longevity of this iconic structure in the heart of Dunfermline.

"We understand the disruption this causes and thank road users, businesses and residents for their patience while we complete these essential repairs."

The current completion date is expected to be 4 October 2026, with further updates to follow as the scheme progresses.
