Major A85 Glenogle Works To Replace Retaining Wall

Construction News Image

BEAR Scotland, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, has confirmed a project to replace the Allt an Deabhtaich retaining wall on the A85 trunk road, around two miles north-west of Lochearnhead and three miles south of the A85/A827 junction. The works are scheduled to start on Monday 17 August and are expected to take approximately five months to complete.

Situated on the southbound side of the carriageway, the existing wall supports a steep slope above the road. The current masonry structure will be removed and replaced with a reinforced concrete wall to meet modern standards and provide stronger protection to the carriageway from the slope above.

For the safety of road users and the workforce, a single-lane closure controlled by two-way temporary traffic lights will operate 24 hours a day for the duration of the works.

In addition, full overnight closures between 12am and 6am will be required for a couple of weeks in October and November to install two large drainage pipes under the road. Exact dates for these closures will be confirmed in due course.

Richard Cook, BEAR Scotland's North West Bridges Manager, said: "This retaining wall replacement project is key to ensuring the ongoing safety and resilience of the A85 for all road users.

"The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible. Although it is necessary to close the road during the construction, the disruptions will be limited to overnight hours only.

"We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works."
