Roadworks for the Central Greenock transformation project began on Monday 27 July.

Lane closures are now in place on approaches to the Bullring Roundabout. However, vehicle access to the town centre is being maintained under traffic management between Container Way and the eastern side of the A8 Dalrymple Street opposite the Municipal Buildings.

From Monday 3 August, the A78 High Street flyover will close, along with a section of the A8 between Wallace Place and the western side of Dalrymple Street opposite Tesco. Drivers should allow extra time for journeys and follow signed diversion routes where required.

Public transport remains a good option. Bus stations and the main bus corridors continue to operate, although some services will be diverted due to the works. Services affected include 507, 517, 550, 531, 532, 533, 901, 906 and X7. Maps and full details of temporary route or bus stop changes are available on McGill's website.

Local shops, restaurants and businesses are open as usual. There is still a wide range of parking in and around the town centre; see the Greenock parking map. Please note that the car parks at the Bullring Roundabout and Hunters Place are now closed.

Blue Badge holders may park free of charge and without time limit in any off-street pay-and-display car park, except at Cathcart Street West Car Park, Greenock, where a three-hour maximum applies.

Parking in Wallace Place will cease from 3 August, though pedestrian access will continue via Wallace Place to Clyde Square, the library and the Fire Museum.

The Central Greenock Project will deliver better links between the town centre and the waterfront, improved pedestrian facilities, new public spaces and a more attractive environment for all. Greenock remains open for business – please park, stride, shop and support your local town centre.
