Construction is moving forward on a new Civic Space in the heart of Bishopbriggs, designed to host events, enhance the public realm and support local traders as part of East Dunbartonshire Council's Place and Growth Programme.

Due for completion in late 2026 or early 2027, the scheme will provide a flexible venue for community events, markets, performances and gatherings beneath a permanent canopy for year-round use. It will feature natural stone paving and bespoke seating to create a durable, high-quality public space, extensive planting with new trees and sustainable drainage, natural play elements for children, and improved pedestrian access to encourage active travel.

The site is located beside Kirkintilloch Road, between St Matthew's Church and the access road to Morrisons. Luddon Construction is delivering the works, supported by SWECO and Pick Everard.

To keep people moving safely while construction progresses, the footpath from the underpass beneath Kirkintilloch Road to the pedestrian crossing on the Morrisons access road will be closed at times. A designated route through the site will be provided for pedestrians to minimise disruption.
