The steel frame of the new Eastwood Leisure Centre and Theatre has been completed, marking a major step forward for the project.
With the structure now in place and completion targeted for late 2027, councillors visited the Eastwood Park site to view the progress first-hand.
During the tour, they saw how an eight-lane main swimming pool, a learner pool, fitness suites, a four-court sports hall and a theatre will be arranged within the complex.
Council Leader Owen O'Donnell said: "It was fabulous to visit the site, as with the steel structure now in place you can really start to get a sense of the space and how it's going to work. This new complex will be wonderful for our residents and will replace facilities which are no longer fit for purpose. By making this long-term investment it will provide amazing leisure spaces for our residents for generations to come and increase the capacity available for our growing population. We are committed to providing opportunities for our residents to live active, healthy lifestyles by creating thriving communities. And it's clear that the new Eastwood Leisure Centre and Theatre will become a real destination for residents at all stages of their lives. It's exciting to see the progress which has already been made on site and I look forward to seeing the construction progress further in the months ahead."
hub West Scotland Director and Chief Executive Iain Marley added: "hub West Scotland is delighted to continue its partnership with East Renfrewshire Council in delivering the new Eastwood Leisure Centre and Theatre. This landmark project will provide modern, sustainable, and high-quality leisure and cultural facilities for both local residents and visitors in addition to generating long-term social value. Our Community Investment Strategy, developed in conjunction with East Renfrewshire Council and key partners, is at the heart and core of the project and will bring meaningful education and employment opportunities to local people, priority groups and businesses. Following a rewarding development phase, it is encouraging to see the positive progress on site, and we look forward to maintaining this momentum as the works progress towards completion in late 2027."
The £56m venue is being constructed beside the current leisure centre in Eastwood Park and is expected to open at the end of 2027. Once the new facility is operational, the existing leisure centre and theatre will be demolished and new landscaped spaces created.
While construction continues, the council is exploring options to increase parking capacity within Eastwood Park to support visitors to the wider campus.
