An event will be held later this month to connect local suppliers and contractors with the principal teams delivering Orkney Islands Council's Quanterness Wind Farm.
The project, in development since 2019, received unanimous support from elected members in February last year and will install six turbines, each 149.1 metres to tip, at St Ola between Kirkwall and Finstown.
The 28.8MW wind farm will export electricity via the new interconnector. Income from power sales is expected to provide the Council with much-needed funding to protect and enhance existing services.
Nordex was confirmed as the turbine supplier in August last year — Turbine Contracts Awarded for Quanterness Wind Farm — and an announcement on the appointed Principal Contractor is anticipated soon.
The informal, drop-in session will give the local supply chain a chance to meet the main project contractors and learn about forthcoming supply and subcontracting opportunities arising from the development.
Contractors attending include:
- Principal Designer – Mott MacDonald
- Turbine Supplier – Nordex
- Distribution Network Operator – SSEN Distribution, and Freedom Group – SSEN Distribution's contract partner
The event will take place at King Street Halls, Kirkwall, on Wednesday 22 July, between 2pm and 6pm.
