East Lothian Council has appointed Wallyford-based RP Slight and Sons to deliver an expansion of Longniddry Primary School’s nursery, in a project valued at more than £163,000.
Refurbishing existing rooms within the school will create a larger early learning and childcare centre, increasing capacity from 30 places to 64.
An initial phase has already removed partition walls and refurbished toilet facilities. Further improvements will include upgrades to kitchen areas, walls and flooring, and enhancements to the external garden play space. Nursery children have been temporarily relocated to the opposite end of the school while works are carried out.
Construction is due to start on Saturday 27 June, with completion targeted for the start of the new term in August. Planning permission was granted on 25 May 2026.
Cabinet member for Education and Children’s and Family Services Councillor Fiona Dugdale said: "This project has been carefully planned to maximise existing areas within the building and transform them into a welcoming, high-quality nursery environment.
"Alongside our extension project at Aberlady Primary School, this investment demonstrates our continued commitment to enhancing early learning and childcare provision, as well as delivering improved facilities for our youngest children."
Following a competitive tender, the total contract value is £163,256.02.
