Clark Contracts has marked the topping out of The Ice Vault, a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development on Osborne Street in Glasgow. The project is being delivered for Far East Orchard Limited and Aurum UK, with Ambassador Group serving as the development manager.
To commemorate the completion of the building's structural frame, Sean Gillies from Aurum UK performed the traditional casting of the final section of concrete. The ceremony was attended by the wider project team and representatives from Clark Contracts, including Directors Michael Scanlan and Danny McKibbens.
The 11-storey building is set to provide 273 student rooms alongside high-specification amenities, such as a gymnasium, cinema, and dedicated common spaces. The design also features large south-facing terraces providing views across the River Clyde.
Sustainability is a primary focus of the development, which is aiming for a BREEAM "Excellent" rating. The building will utilise roof-mounted air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, while green and blue roofs have been integrated as part of a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS). Additionally, the project has achieved WiredScore 'Platinum' status for its digital connectivity.
The professional team for the project includes Blyth & Blyth, Mosaic Architecture, and Gardiner & Theobald.
Alan Tang, Group CEO and Executive Director of Far East Orchard, stated: "The topping out of The Ice Vault represents another step forward in executing Far East Orchard's strategy to scale our purpose-built student accommodation business in the UK. Together with our partners, Aurum UK and Ambassador Group, we are committed to delivering sustainable assets that meet the evolving needs of students, and look forward to its completion."
Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts, added: "Reaching the topping out stage at The Ice Vault is an important milestone for the project and reflects the scale and ambition of the development. The building has been carefully designed to provide students in Glasgow with a high‑quality, future‑focused place to live, with sustainability and wellbeing at its core. We are proud to see the project taking shape and look forward to its completion."
