Glasgow Climate Week to Showcase Practical Action and Green Innovation

Construction News Image

Glasgow Climate Week, hosted by Glasgow City Council, is scheduled to take place from 11–16 May. The initiative focuses on converting climate ambition into tangible results, positioning Glasgow as a hub for sustainable economic growth. The week's agenda, curated by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, features a series of high-profile events covering international leadership, innovation, and career development.

The programme commences on Monday 11 May with COB Futures at the City of Glasgow College Riverside Campus. Organised alongside Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) regional groups, this event invites S3 pupils to explore green career pathways and the specific skills needed for a low-carbon workforce. Later that day, the COB Inspires session, delivered with Gallant, will provide graduates and early-career professionals with networking opportunities and insights from those already established in circular economy roles.

On Tuesday 12 May, the flagship Congress of Business 2026 (COB26) will take place, marking five years since the city hosted COP26. Partnering with the British and Scottish Chambers of Commerce, the University of Glasgow, and E.ON UK, the congress will gather international business figures to discuss how circularity and resilience can provide a competitive edge. Ahead of the main congress, E.ON UK will host an informal breakfast at SWG3's Zinc Bar to facilitate open dialogue regarding the challenges and opportunities currently shaping the local economy.

Innovation takes centre stage on Thursday 14 May at a breakfast event hosted by Barclays and the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. Aimed at founders and entrepreneurs, the session will feature a panel of experienced leaders discussing practical sustainability solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises. The panel includes:

• Michael Cusack, Chief Sustainability Officer at ACS Clothing

• Jennifer O'Donnell, Director at O'Donnell Brown Architects

• Gerry Docherty, Managing Director of Circulus

• Barrie Harvey, Chief Operating Officer at Pulpex

The week's business-focused activities conclude on Friday 15 May with 'Amplifying Glasgow's Circular Economy'. Led by Circular Glasgow Ambassadors, this session uses structured discussions and presentations to highlight local success stories and foster collaboration within the city's circular economy.

The collective goal of Glasgow Climate Week is to demonstrate that climate innovation and circular thinking are essential components of a more resilient future. The week offers a platform for the civic and business communities to celebrate existing progress while learning how to work together on future climate actions.
