New data released by telematics and smart mobility specialist ABAX UK following Scotplant 2026 has uncovered significant operational gaps within the sector. The analysis suggests that many plant and site operators are currently facing major "blind spots" because their assets remain untracked.

Following engagement with nearly 70 unique industry firms at the event, the data indicates that 63% of these businesses do not utilise any form of tracking for their trailers, vehicles, or high-value plant machinery. This lack of oversight leaves companies vulnerable to various risks, such as the loss of assets, the inability to confirm locations for billing or security, and inefficient maintenance scheduling.

The report also identified the loss of equipment and tools as a substantial financial burden. Specifically, 24% of industry professionals—representing nearly one in four surveyed—noted that the persistent loss of power tools is a primary source of frustration and cost for their business.

These operational challenges have reached the boardroom, with the analysis showing that 58% of discussions regarding these issues were conducted with company Owners, Directors, and senior Managers looking to protect their bottom line.
