New £15m Templehall Community Hub Opens its Doors in Kirkcaldy

Construction News Image

The new £15 million Templehall Community Hub in Kirkcaldy has officially opened, providing a modern, integrated space for local residents. The purpose-built facility, developed in partnership with the local community, serves as a central point for a wide range of services and activities, replacing several older structures in the area including the former Argos Centre and Templehall Community Centre.

Located in the heart of Templehall, the hub has been designed to offer flexible and accessible spaces, bringing together council and partner services in one location. Facilities within the new building include a library, a customer service centre, an IT and learning suite, a training kitchen, and various meeting rooms. Additionally, the site features a community hall available for hire and an outdoor Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

To celebrate the launch, a week-long programme of free taster sessions is running from 27 April to 2 May. These sessions are intended to introduce residents to the new building and offer a variety of activities including:

• Junior Code Club

• Lego challenge activities

The hub marks a significant environmental milestone as the first community facility in Fife constructed to the Passivhaus Classic Standard. This design ensures the building is highly insulated and airtight, maintaining a comfortable temperature year-round while significantly reducing energy consumption. The project also prioritised sustainability by recycling materials from the previous site and other local developments.

Safety has been a key focus of the development, with the building receiving the Gold Secured by Design award from Police Scotland. This accreditation recognises the integration of "designing out crime" principles, which include enhanced physical security for windows and doors and a site layout that promotes natural surveillance and safety.

Cllr Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: "The opening of the new Templehall Community Hub is an important milestone for Kirkcaldy and Templehall area and forms part of wider investment in the local community. People will be proud of what has been delivered, a facility which will set the tone for a forward-looking community.

"This modern, purpose-built facility brings together services people rely on in a welcoming and accessible space. It will play a key role in supporting learning, wellbeing and community life in Templehall for years to come, and I'd encourage as many people as possible to come along, explore the new building and take part in the opening week activities."
