Primary pupils in Motherwell were given an inside look at the construction sector during a dedicated STEM and careers session run by Clark Contracts.
The workshop took place at Motherwell Library, beside the firm's site at the former Motherwell Town Hall, where Clark Contracts is refurbishing the Grade C listed building to create 20 modern, affordable homes for North Lanarkshire Council.
Twenty-five pupils from Cathedral, Glencairn, Knowetop, Ladywell and Muirstreet primary schools attended. The session opened with an overview from the site team on current works, followed by a tailored careers presentation outlining roles across the industry and the routes into them, including a Q&A for pupils and teachers.
Working in teams, pupils then designed and built their own version of the historic clock tower, carefully managing a set budget, materials and overall design approach.
Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts, said: "By taking part in hands‑on activities like this, pupils get the chance to see how their creativity, problem‑solving and teamwork skills can translate into real careers within our industry. It's inspiring to watch their confidence grow as they take on practical challenges and learn more about the wide range of opportunities available in construction. We hope this experience encourages them to continue exploring STEM subjects and consider the pathways that could lead them into future roles within our sector."
Jordan Price, Project Manager, North Lanarkshire Council added "Events like this give pupils the opportunity to engage in creative challenges while learning about the wide range of local careers available in the construction sector. They also provide an excellent way for schools to connect with projects taking place within their local community. We would like to thank Clark Contracts for organising this valuable event and for creating a fun, engaging and meaningful learning experience for our young people."
