Dundee United Reveals Ambitious Stadium Community Hub Plans

Dundee United Football Club has announced it is exploring plans to redevelop portions of The CalForth Construction Arena into a state-of-the-art Community Hub. The project is a collaborative effort between the club, the Dundee United Community Trust, and stadium naming rights partner CalForth Construction.

The proposed redevelopment focuses on the Hegarty Suite and several adjacent spaces within the stadium which have hosted community programmes for over ten years. Planned upgrades include the introduction of a mezzanine level to increase capacity, significantly improved accessibility, and a complete modernisation of all fixtures and fittings. The vision is to create a flexible space that serves supporters on matchdays while providing enhanced facilities for local initiatives throughout the week.

While the project is in its early stages, it has already secured a £20,000 grant from the NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation. The total investment for the next phase of the facility's development is expected to reach approximately £200,000.

Joe Rice, Chief Operating Officer, said: "We are excited to be exploring this opportunity alongside our partners at the Community Trust and CalForth Construction. This project can represent a real investment in both our supporters and the wider community, and reflects our ambition to ensure Tannadice continues to evolve in a way that benefits everyone connected to the club. It is a significant upgrade to an area of the stadium that is widely utilised by both our community all week round and our supporters on matchdays."

The hub will support a variety of the Community Trust's award-winning programmes, including disability sports, social clubs for the elderly, and meeting centres for individuals living with dementia.

Jamie Kirk, CEO of the club's Community Trust, added: "We're really excited to be exploring this opportunity in partnership with the club and CalForth. The Hegarty Suite is a space we have used extensively over the years, and the prospect of modernising it to create even greater community benefit is hugely positive. From disability sport and social clubs for older people, to our new meeting centres for those living with dementia, we already have a range of high-impact programmes ready to make full use of the space."

Grant Handforth and Steven Callander of CalForth Construction added: "We are excited to be involved in this project. Community projects are at the very heart of our ethos as a company. Our ongoing relationship with the club and its community trust allows us to be a partner in such an ambitious project. Our commitment to the naming rights of the stadium has always included the desire to enhance and upgrade the stadium, and we believe the plans for the Hegarty Suite encompass everything we believe in for the stadium."
