The Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) has published its manifesto in anticipation of the Scottish elections on Thursday, 7 May. As an organisation dedicated to advancing the energy transition across Scotland and the wider UK, AREG has identified several critical priorities that it believes the next administration must address, regardless of political affiliation.
The manifesto focuses on securing the long-term future of the sector, with key objectives including the delivery of a regional energy strategy, increased investment in the Scottish supply chain and domestic skills, and the acceleration of offshore wind development. AREG asserts that these measures are vital for attracting international investment and protecting local employment.
Jean Morrison, Chair of AREG, said: "At AREG, we are apolitical. But we also care passionately about our country's energy future. In the light of the upcoming elections, it is critical for us to state our position clearly, and to highlight the areas of the industry we believe must be adequately addressed and structured. These pillars are fundamental to give Scotland the best chance for a formidable energy industry and to maintain its global renewable energy leadership."
To further facilitate dialogue between the industry and policy-makers, AREG is organising a hustings event. This gathering will allow parliamentary candidates to detail their specific proposals for the Scottish energy sector and engage directly with industry leaders.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, 22 April, at the W Zero 1 Conference Room, located at 1 Hareness Road, Altens, Aberdeen. Anyone wishing to make enquiries regarding the hustings can do so through the group's official channels.
