A proposed development plan for Camperdown Park, one of Dundee's most significant green spaces, is set to be discussed by the City Governance committee on Monday, 20 April 2026.
If approved, the plan will utilise £1.5 million from the UK Government's Pride in Place Fund to deliver a wide-ranging programme of improvements.
The initiative is part of a broader government effort aimed at revitalising community and public spaces through long-term, locally driven investment. Councillor Mark Flynn, convener of the City Governance committee, emphasised the potential impact of the project on the city:
"Improvements to such a huge resource could potentially have a positive impact on everyone in the city, helping to boost inclusive access, improve health and wellbeing and strengthen climate resilience and biodiversity."
The council plans to base the upgrades on Dundee-themed concepts, drawing inspiration from the city's maritime heritage, industry, and woodland storytelling—notably referencing Mary Shelley. The committee will discuss several potential areas for investment, including:
• Play Zones: A comprehensive renewal of the park's main play areas, featuring a new landmark installation and equipment designed to be accessible for people of all abilities.
• Navigation and Access: Enhancements to park entrances, supported by new signage and wayfinding systems to help both residents and visitors navigate the grounds more effectively.
• Infrastructure Sustainability: Upgrades to utilities, digital connectivity, and access routes to support community events and ensure the park's long-term sustainability.
Councillor Flynn underscored the importance of public involvement, stating: "It is critical to get as many people's views as possible. That's why much of this year will be taken up with a comprehensive programme of community engagement."
If the committee approves the plan on Monday, the council will move into a phase of detailed consultation and design. A further tender report is expected in early 2027, with the project slated for completion later that same year.
