West Lothian Council has successfully secured £1.2 million in grant funding to expand the scope of the planned replacement community hub for Stoneyburn.

The financial boost comes from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, a joint initiative between the Scottish Government and local authorities. This new funding is in addition to the £3.1 million already committed by West Lothian Council, bringing the total investment for the project to £4.3 million.

The increased budget will allow for a larger, more comprehensive facility than originally envisioned. The council has confirmed that consultations will be held with local residents to determine the internal design, ensuring the space effectively meets the diverse needs of the Stoneyburn community for groups and events.

Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick, said: "I welcome the support from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund to deliver an improved community facility for Stoneyburn. Their contribution of £1.2 million, in addition to the £3.1 million already allocated by West Lothian Council, will enable a new modern hub for local community groups and events to be built, to meet the needs of Stoneyburn residents."

The need for a replacement facility arose after the original Stoneyburn Community Education Centre was found to contain reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) panels. Following independent structural investigations and advice from engineers, the centre was closed in January 2024 and is slated for demolition.

The new hub aims to restore vital community services to the area in a modern, safe, and expanded environment.
