SBHA And Whiteburn Sign £5.95m Deal For Lauder Development

Whiteburn Projects Ltd and Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) have agreed a £5.95 million design-and-build contract to deliver 27 affordable homes at the Allanbank development in Lauder.

The mix of properties will range from one-bedroom bungalows to four-bedroom family houses. Designed on a tenure-blind basis and aligned with the wider Allanbank masterplan, the affordable homes will match private sale homes in design quality, layout and materials, helping to create a cohesive and inclusive neighbourhood.

Providing these homes forms part of the community benefits and planning conditions attached to Allanbank. Site infrastructure works are scheduled to begin in March 2026, with the first completions expected in late summer or early autumn 2027.

Eve McCurrich, Managing Director of Whiteburn Projects, said: "Scottish Borders Housing Association has worked with us from the outset on the delivery of the affordable home provision at Allanbank, and their representatives attended public consultations and fully supported our planning process. It has been a genuinely collaborative approach that benefits the overall development.

"I am delighted that we have completed our contract negotiations and are now moving into the construction phase to deliver this much-needed affordable housing alongside our private homes for sale. The local community of Lauder will start to see our vision for Allanbank take shape over the coming months, and it's great for our whole team to be back in the Borders."

Chief Executive, Julia Mulloy of Scottish Borders Housing Association adds: "Allanbank will deliver much-needed homes for the local community in Lauder, and we have worked closely with Whiteburn to ensure the development reflects local needs. As one of our first Section 75 agreements, this development highlights the importance of including affordable housing – including mid-market rent – alongside homes for sale, helping to create balanced, sustainable communities.

"We are grateful for the support of Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Government in enabling the delivery of these high-quality, energy-efficient homes, and we look forward to seeing them take shape."

The partnership aims to meet local housing need in Lauder by providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes for individuals and families across the Scottish Borders.
