Sanctuary Scotland has officially marked the completion of 44 new affordable homes at Adam Place in the Seafar area of Cumbernauld. The £9 million project, delivered in partnership with construction firm CCG (Scotland), has transformed the disused Lennox House commercial site into a range of high-quality one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.
The development was supported by £6.082 million in funding from the Scottish Government and represents a significant milestone in Sanctuary's ongoing regeneration efforts in the town. To date, the organisation has completed 588 new homes in Cumbernauld as part of a long-term programme that included the demolition of 12 high-rise blocks.
Sustainability and accessibility are at the core of the new Adam Place units. Each property features a zero-emission exhaust air source heat pump system and a dedicated parking space equipped with electric vehicle charging points. Furthermore, the flats have been designed for future adaptation, including potential for wet rooms or wheelchair access.
Scottish Housing Secretary Màiri McAllan, who visited the site to mark its completion, said: "Sanctuary Housing's transformation of the former Lennox House in Cumbernauld, into a mix of 44 much needed affordable homes, is a welcome addition in an area experiencing high demand for housing. I'm also pleased the Scottish Government was able to contribute £6.082 million towards this project which is part of Sanctuary Housing's wider regeneration programme in the area."
Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary's Development Director for Scotland, added: "We're proud to have worked with the Scottish Government and North Lanarkshire Council to transform this important site in Cumbernauld into these much-needed new affordable homes for local people. We were delighted to be able to show the Housing Secretary the finished development and to hear such positive feedback from our new residents."
The project was delivered entirely by CCG, from land acquisition and design through to manufacturing and construction. David Wylie, CCG Managing Director, noted that the project serves as an example of how land-led initiatives and in-house expertise can unlock sites to deliver housing at pace.
Sanctuary's commitment to the region continues, with plans recently submitted to North Lanarkshire Council for a further 199 affordable homes in a town centre location.
