Work has begun on a long-vacant plot at Graystale Road in St Ninians, Stirling, where 44 affordable homes are being built after the site stood empty since 2012.

The development will provide a mix of one- and two-bedroom cottage flats alongside two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, with four of the homes designed to be fully wheelchair-accessible.

All properties will be energy-efficient and retained within Stirling Council's housing stock for social rent, with completion expected by spring 2027.

Housing Convener, Cllr Willie Ferguson, said: "I'm delighted to see construction works get underway for new council housing at Graystale Road, St Ninians.

"The location is ideal for transport links, schools and local amenities, and these houses will be a much welcome addition to the local community when completed.

"I am particularly pleased that these energy efficient houses will help tenants and families in a cost-of-living crisis.

"Simply put, we need more houses. The current Strategic Housing Investment Plan aims to deliver almost 900 high-quality affordable homes within the next five years, and we are delighted to support this development in St Ninians, as we have on other sites from Balmaha to Cowie."

CCG (Scotland) has been appointed as the contractor and will use its enhanced closed-panel 'iQ' Timber System, combined with the firm's own windows and doors. Utilities, M&E, flooring, and all joinery and plumbing works will be delivered by CCG's in-house teams.

The construction approach aims to deliver high levels of airtightness to help homes retain heat and reduce energy demand. Air source heat pumps will supply heating and hot water, wastewater heat recovery will be fitted, and each solar PV array will be linked to battery storage. Collectively, these features are designed to meet Aspect Platinum Level 1 (Section 7: Sustainability of the Scottish Building Standards) and help cut operational carbon emissions and reduce tenant energy bills.
