SSEN Transmission has issued an invitation to businesses throughout the north-east to discover the extensive supply chain opportunities associated with the development of the Netherton Hub.
A 'Meet the Buyer' event is scheduled to take place from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 25 March at Balmoor Stadium, the home of Peterhead FC. The event offers companies an opportunity to engage directly with the teams responsible for delivering two new AC substations, as well as the HVDC converter station and the subsea cable for the Spittal to Peterhead link.
The Netherton Hub is a central component of a broader £29 billion investment programme running until March 2030. This initiative aims to modernise and strengthen the electricity network across the north of Scotland to support national energy security and clean energy targets.
The project is expected to create significant economic activity in the north-east, following the example of the Eastern Green Link 2 project, which has already contributed more than £9 million to the local economy. The upcoming event will detail requirements across a diverse array of sectors, including:
• Construction and Trades: Joinery, painting and decorating, brick and stonework, scaffolding, and earthworks.
• Specialist Services: Fire protection, pest control, drone and drainage surveys, and landscaping.
• Logistics and Site Support: Worker transportation, catering, off-site storage, and fencing.
• Equipment and Supply: Local plant hire, tool supply, builders' merchants, and quarry materials.
• Labour: Local labour and forklift or telehandler operators.
Ryan Wallace, SSEN Transmission's Deputy Project Director for the Netherton Hub, said: "The Meet the Buyer event taking place at Peterhead FC's stadium on 25 March is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to find out how they can play a role in delivering the Netherton Hub and associated Spittal to Peterhead subsea cable project. From joinery and earthworks to catering and plant hire, there is a wide variety of work available across the lifecycle of this major project.
"Investment in our transmission network is a powerful driver of jobs and regional economic growth, and we've already seen how Eastern Green Link 2 has delivered over £9 million of local economic benefit in the Peterhead area.
"With the Netherton Hub set to bring another major wave of investment to the north-east, we're encouraging local suppliers to come along, meet our project teams and contractors, and explore how they can get involved in a project that will support local employment, skills and economic growth."
