SSEN Transmission Announces Public Consultation for Dunoon Substation Replacement

SSEN Transmission has launched a public consultation regarding its proposals to replace the existing Dunoon 132kV substation. The project is designed to modernise critical infrastructure and support the future energy requirements of communities throughout the Argyll and Bute region.

The current Grid Supply Point (GSP) substation, located at Ardnadam, has been in service since 1971. Having reached the end of its operational life, SSEN Transmission is proposing the construction of a new 132kV facility near the original site to maintain the resilience and security of the local network.

A pre-application consultation event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 17 March at Dunoon Burgh Hall. Running from 2pm to 7pm, the session will provide members of the public with the opportunity to meet the project team and discuss the development plans in detail.

Jason Tyler, Project Manager for the Dunoon 132kV Substation Replacement Project, said: "Replacing the existing substation is vital to ensuring Dunoon and the wider region continue to benefit from a safe and reliable electricity transmission network.

"By investing in modern infrastructure, we can maintain security of supply for homes and businesses while preparing the network for the future. We're encouraging members of the public to come along to our consultation event at Dunoon Burgh Hall on Tuesday 17 March and speak with the project team about our plans."

The feedback gathered during this period will be used to refine the proposals before a formal planning application is submitted. SSEN Transmission has confirmed that the feedback window is now open and will remain so until 28 April 2026.

Jason Tyler added: "Your feedback will play an important role in shaping our proposals before we submit our planning application for the project, and we welcome all comments and feedback on our proposals."
